If you are a part of Apple product family, i.e. you own any of its products like an iPhone, iPad, Mac or an iPod touch, you can enjoy a unique feature that is offered only to the members of the Apple family-FaceTime audio and video call. Making audio or video calls using FaceTime for iPhone and iPad is as easy as making a regular call from the iPhone. This is because FaceTime is a built-in app on all the Apple products mentioned above. It is also integrated with the phone app in iPhone. However, it is crucial that both the caller and the receiver of the call should have a good Wi-Fi or cellular data network.
All the above-mentioned products of the Apple have an inbuilt application called the FaceTime app that lets the users make audio or video calls using the Wi-Fi services or the cellular data network. This means you can not only listen to your loved but also see them even if you are on an international vacation without a long distance calling plan, or catch up with an old friend even if you are in the middle of nowhere, without having to bother about the traditional phone lines.
How to Make an Audio Call Using FaceTime for iPhone or iPad?
On the Home screen of your Apple device, you will see the FaceTime app. Open the app directly from there.
There are two distinct options provided right in the top center of the screen-Video and Audio. Tap on the ‘Audio’ option to make an audio call.
Tap on the search bar provided right under the options ‘Video and audio’. Here you need to enter the name, email or number of the person you wish to call.
The moment you tap on the search bar, your contact list will open before you and you can select the desired contact. If there is more than one number of the same contact, you will be asked to choose one out of them.
Once you choose a contact, its details will appear before you. You will now see FaceTime wrote and a button that looks a telephone receiver in front of that, on the far right corner.
Tap on the phone icon to start your FaceTime audio call instantly.
How to Make a Video Call Using FaceTime for iPhone or iPad?
Making a video call is very similar to making the audio call using the FaceTime for iPhone and iPad. Apart from minor differences here and there, the only major difference is the fact that with a video call you can also see your loved ones, the people you care about the most, right in front of you.
Follow all the steps from Step 1 to Step 4 above. Except in the Step 2, you will now choose the ‘Video’ option in place of ‘Audio’ (obviously!).
When you will finally choose a contact, all its details will appear on the screen, before you. Among all the details, you will also see FaceTime written and two icons in front of that-one, a phone button that we chose for the audio call (as discussed in the steps above) and a video button right before that, which is depicted with an icon of a video camera.
You can tap on the icon of video camera to start your video call almost instantly.
Switching from a Regular Call to FaceTime Call on iPhone:
A mind blowing feature allows you to switch from a regular call to a FaceTime call almost instantly. While on the call, on your call Menu, you will see an option of FaceTime. Tap on that to start the FaceTime call. In case the FaceTime option is grey or inactive, it means that the FaceTime call is not available to the person who is on call.
